Visitors to our website

When someone visits the East Cheshire NHS Trust website, we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out information such as the number of users, and popular pages on the website. We collect this information in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

We use Google Analytics to help analyse use of our website. This analytical tool uses 'cookies', very small text documents, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites. Browsers are usually set to accept cookies. However, if you would prefer not to receive cookies, you may alter the configuration of your browser to refuse cookies. If you choose to have your browser refuse cookies, it is possible that some areas of our site will not function as effectively when viewed by you. A cookie cannot retrieve any other data from your hard drive or pass on computer viruses. A cookie does not hold any information about which sites you visited before this one. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) is transmitted to Google.

This information is then used to evaluate visitors’ use of the website and to compile statistical reports on website activity for East Cheshire NHS Trust. By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by East Cheshire NHS Trust and Google Analytics in the manner and for the purposes set out above. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. Neither East Cheshire NHS Trust nor Google will link, or seek to link, an IP address with the identity of a computer user.

Cookie policy

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as amended, cover electronic marketing such as emails, faxes and text messages. They include rules for cookies on websites, and there is provision for the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to take action where there has been a breach of the PECR by means of criminal prosecution, non-criminal enforcement and audit. The ICO can serve monetary penalties for breaches of the PECR.

The existing PECR rules have not been replaced by the GDPR, but the standard of consent in the GDPR now applies to the PECR.
