Restrictions on visiting at Macclesfield District General Hospital - March 2020

From 26th March 2020

Please be aware that in line with further national guidance related to COVID-19 (coronavirus), all visiting has been suspended at Macclesfield Hospital and Congleton Hospital's Aston Unit with immediate effect. This is to reduce footfall and minimise the risk of transmission, which is good practice at this time.

All visiting has been suspended with immediate effect apart from:

• If a patient is receiving end-of-life care or;

• If a visitor is a parent or appropriate adult visiting a child

In these circumstances one visitor – an immediate family member or carer – will be permitted to visit.

We appreciate these restrictions will be difficult for many families but they have been put in place to ensure the safety of people's loved ones, our staff and our wider local community. The hospital does have free WiFi so relatives can use video calls to keep in touch wherever possible.

These important measures will help ensure the safety of patients and visitors and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

Infection control - how you can help

Our staff work very hard to reduce the risks of passing on infections to patients. Visitors can do their bit to help cut the spread of infections by following a few simple rules:

  • Any visitor who is unwell and has an illness such as flu, heavy cold, diarrhoea or vomiting, should not visit the hospital unless it is absolutely necessary. If you are unsure telephone and check with the person in charge beforehand.
  • All visitors should wash their hands before entering and on leaving the ward. There are sinks situated at the entrance to each ward.
  • Flowers - visitors are politely requested not to bring flowers onto the wards for infection control and health and safety reasons.

If you have any concerns or queries about infection control or cleanliness, please contact the nurse in charge, matron or ask to speak to an infection control nurse.

Visit our infection control page for more information

Telephoning the wards

We understand that many people will be concerned about you during your stay here and may want to call to find out how you are. The ward staff are very busy caring for patients and may not be able to give time to each phonecall for every patient.

Please could we request that only one family member telephones the wards regarding your progress and please ensure that the member is made known to staff in order to protect your personal details. Your relative can then share information with your other family and friends.
