Surgical Business Unit

The Surgical Business Unit supports the delivery of a range of inpatient, day case and outpatient services for the patients who choose to have their treatment at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

Our services

• General surgery
• The specialty for treatments in ear, nose and throat.
• The specialty of Maxillofacial (for oral and dental treatments).
• Ophthalmology (Eye) Department.
• Breast specialty – for investigations and surgery.
• Trauma and Orthopaedics Department.
• Critical care services, which includes our Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit.
• The Endoscopy and Treatment suite

Our Anaesthetic Department supports all of the above services when patients are admitted for their operations or require specialised treatment and nursing in our Intensive Care Unit.
 
Our x-ray Department is able to carry out a range of special x-rays to support the hospital doctors and the GP’s when patients need to have investigations. Some of those tests are called:

• MRI
• CT
• X-ray
• Barium studies
• Ultrasound

The Surgical Business Unit has a management team to ensure that all these services are delivered to the highest standard. The team is led by our clinical director, an associate director and five service managers who are responsible for the operational day to day running of the services.
 
In order that our patients receive a standard of excellence of care at the East Cheshire NHS Trust the Surgical Business Unit has a lead nurse and two matrons who are responsible for monitoring the quality of service delivery.
