The Macmillan Cancer Resource Centre has been developed as a joint venture between Macmillan Cancer Support and East Cheshire NHS Trust, to help ensure that people affected by cancer have access to good quality, comprehensive and appropriate information and support.
The centre (which is located on the ground floor near the rear car park at Macclesfield District General Hospital), was opened in September 2003 and officially opened by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
The philosophy of the centre is that we believe everyone affected by cancer deserves high quality, accessible, appropriate information, treatment and support.
Our centre aims to meet these expectations by providing a welcoming and safe environment for all visitors wherein patients, their families and friends can be helped to come to terms with the impact of their diagnosis on their lives emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially. The centre was the first flag ship cancer unit in the UK to provide in one place chemotherapy, oncology research, oncology clinics and an information and support service.
The centre operates a co-ordinated, multi-agency approach to the support of cancer patients, providing specialist cancer services which includes;

Cancer services at East Cheshire NHS Trust are part of the Greater Manchester and Cheshire cancer network.
The Greater Manchester and Cheshire cancer network site aims to provide simple, easy to understand information - to cancer patients, their families, friends and carers. Its 'about cancer' section features information on cancers, tests, treatments, living with cancer, cancer services, and on getting help and support in the Greater Manchester and the Cheshire area. It also has a 'network and services' section, which outlines what a cancer network does and how we are helping to improve cancer services for our patients.
The Macmillan Cancer Support website provides specialist advice to patients with cancer, those who care for them and fellow professionals. Our aim is to optimise quality of life and we will endeavour to address individual concerns, whatever they may be.
