Feeding your baby

When you are having a baby there seems to be lots of decisions to make such as choosing names, where to give birth, ways of coping with labour and so on.
Choosing how to feed your baby is influenced by many things that we are not consciously aware of.
We would advise you to take the time to find out all that you can about the two different types of feeding, breastfeeding and formula feeding, so that you can make an informed decision.

After you give birth we recommend that you hold your baby next to your skin (we call this skin-to-skin contact) as it has many benefits for you both.
Some babies naturally decide for themselves how they want to feed and will self attach during skin contact.
Here at Macclesfield Maternity Unit we offer all mums help with breastfeeding during this special time after birth.
If you choose to give your baby formula milk we will give you support and advice about how to do this safely.
The information provided here will help you to make an informed choice about how to feed your baby.
